Armin Egger

Armin Egger was born in Graz (Austria).

He studied with Elisabeth and Heinz Irmler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and with Timothy Walker at the Royal Academy of Music in London, finishing both degrees with Distinction. For his final recital at the Royal Academy he was also awarded the RAM ́s highest accolade, the Diploma of the Royal Academy of Music (DipRAM).

Prize winner of numerous national and international competitions, among others the International Guitar Competition Milan (Italy), Riviera del Conero Competition in Ancona (Italy), International Guitar Competition in Rust (Austria), International Guitar Competition Stafford (UK), Concurso Comarca del Condado in Jaen (Spain), Vienna International Music Competition. In 1999 world-famous guitarist Julian Bream awarded him the Julian Bream Prize of the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Concerts and recitals as soloist and in chamber music ensembles in Europe, Asia, North and South America as well as soloist with various orchestras (e.g. Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna, Vienna Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Lord Yehudi Menuhin; Century Symphony Orchestra Taipeh). Performances at various festivals such as Britten and the Britons, Junge Frühlingswoche (Konzerthaus, ViennaAustria), Int. Guitar Festival Nürtingen (Germany), Guitar Festival Bolivar Hall (London), Strings Only (Zadar/Croatia), International Guitar Festival Lima (Peru). In 2007 the Austrian radio station Ö1 awarded Armin Egger the title Musician of the Year of Styria. In 2014 he was elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM), an honour only offered to past students of the Academy who have distinguished themselves in the music profession and made a significant contribution in their particular field.

Egger has already recorded a wide array of works for guitar solo as well as chamber music for guitar. His recent recording Hommage (published by ARS-Produktion), with works for guitar solo by Agustín Barrios, Caspar Joseph Mertz, Francisco Tárrega and Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, has been unanimously applauded by the press worldwide. Armin Egger teaches at the Johann-Joseph-Fux Conservatory in Graz and the Vienna Conservatory in Vienna, as well as the annual summer classes Sommerakademie Lilienfeld and Gitarrewoche Benediktbeuern.
